Allergy Medicine - Not All Medicines are Created

When someone has an allergic reaction, it is not a lot of fun. Some of the allergy symptoms that you can experience are:

Coughing
Sneezing
Puffing up
Tearing up
Migraine headache

Shock, if extremely severeThe thing is, every allergy is different and not all allergy medication is the same and works on all allergies.

You have to find the right medication for the specific allergy that you are experiencing. You can do this by talking to your doctor or to an allergy specialist. This way you can find the best allergy medicine for you. What is the test for allergies? When you are getting tested for allergies, they have to test many different substances in order to pinpoint what you are allergic to. What they do is inject you, usually down the length of your spine, with several different substances. This can be anything from daily products like grass to dander to even dust. What they're looking for is a reaction. If you are allergic to a substance your skin will become red and raised at the injection site. This is a sure sign that you are allergic. This way once they know what you are allergic to they can prescribe the correct medicine.

Prescription compared to over the counterWhen you have an allergy you must find a medication that works for you. Say for example, you only have mild allergies, then probably an over the counter allergy medicine will be fine. But then there are severe allergies. For example, say you are allergic to shellfish, and when you leave it you blow up and have to be rushed to the hospital. An over the counter allergy medicine will not work for this. This technology will require a prescription from your doctor. If you are allergic to something and want to get rid of it are at least help the symptoms, get tested and ask your allergist's for some kind of allergy medicine that will help you feel better.

If you want to enjoy life and if there is an allergy medicine out there that will work for you then you better go out and find that medicine. For more information on this topic as well as other asthma / allergy related topics visit: Allergy Medicine

Mattress Covers for Allergy Protection

Today we know that allergies have a cumulative effect on our bodies; that is, the older you get, the worse allergies get, depending on what you were exposed to while growing up. Nasty microscopic bed bugs, dust mites, and bacteria live in most mattresses and pillows, separated from your face and body only by the barrier that you place between them and you. They feed on dead skin cells and become, for humans, a major cause of asthma, eczema, and rhinitis.

Unfortunately, standard pillowcases and sheets (in other words, standard bedding), don?t serve as adequate barriers from the nasty little bugs. Fortunately, the right mattress cover can protect you.

We make a substantial investment in a good mattress. For those of us with back and other injuries that we must accommodate by providing additional sleep support, we also spend a hefty sum on therapeutic pillows for our head and neck and on body pillows.

So what happens when we bring home a new mattress and plunk down our old pillow on it? And what happens when we buy an expensive neck or body pillow and put it on our existing mattress?

Well, you can guess that the nasty bugs travel right through our bedding to build a comfy home in the brand new product.

What we really need is a mattress cover that is a breathable yet waterproof barrier fabric that prevents bacteria and dust mites from breeding in our mattresses and pillows. We would all like something that feels soft to the touch yet does not let anything get through to our skin and into the new products that we buy.

And while we?re at it, why not provide a healthy, allergy-free sleep zone for baby to reduce the allergens to which baby is exposed from the start!

There are mattress covers available today that provide the barrier we seek. There are two types.

  1. The less-expensive mattress protectors, such as the Slumber Soft Mattress Pad, are top-layer, waterproof barriers to protect our mattresses from moisture from bed wetting, sweating, etc. They have a super-soft feel like natural cotton, but are typically made from durable polyester Flannelatte Laminated Vinyl to prevent any leakage onto the mattress. That just means that they simulate flannel with an underlying layer of impermeable high-tech vinyl. They make excellent mattress protectors for the crib and for the elderly. Family caregivers appreciate the fact that they are lightweight and easy maintenance (machine washable). With straps to hook around the corners of the mattress, they are easy to remove and clean, and easy to replace on the mattress. Some of the waterproof-only mattress protectors are reversible so you can use them longer. With a super-soft, cottony feel, they give both baby and the elderly a comfortable night?s sleep while protecting the mattress from moisture and odor.

  2. The second type of mattress cover is the allergy mattress cover that is slightly more expensive but which provides complete protection both against moisture and dust mites or bacteria. The dust mites or bacteria that may have lived in your mattress will not reach your skin or lungs once your mattress is covered with an impenetrable allergy mattress cover. It wraps your mattress like a fitted sheet. While your skin feels soft cotton on top, the waterproof, impenetrable-barrier layer further down, made from the latest high tech fabric, separates you from the bugs!

There are also mattress covers in baby?s size to protect the crib mattress both from dust mites and from bedwetting moisture, stains, and odor! The allergy mattress cover offers complete protection as a waterproof barrier and as a shield against dust mites and bacteria found in every home. Allergy mattress covers are available in pillow slip-on sizes to protect your face and neck while you sleep.

Just be careful to examine the label on the mattress cover or pillow cover to ensure that you are getting the proper protection. If it is a waterproof mattress cover (for bedwetting) that you are protecting against, either level will do. If it is an allergy mattress cover that interests you, the label should discuss the mattress protection against allergy-causing dust mites and bacteria.

This seemingly minor addition to your bed will enhance your sleeping comfort by creating a healthy sleep zone for you and your family.

Want To Effectively Handle A Food Allergy?

Having any kind of food allergy can certainly crimp eating habits, but for most, it's something that is just dealt with without too many problems, especially when the allergy is developed at an early age.

A food allergy or any kind of food intolerance can be mild or severe, and many people are allergic to foods and don't even realize it. Mild symptoms like an upset stomach or heartburn is common after eating particular kinds of food, but most people don't equate such as an allergy. However, there's a difference between a food allergy and food intolerance, and the public in general should know what that is.

The body has an unusual response to an allergy that is caused by the body's immune system and comes with specific and sometimes extremely uncomfortable symptoms that occur within minutes of eating sensitive foods and include hives and rashes. A reaction may also induce asthma and weakness or lightheadedness, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock.

Excessive swelling in body tissues, including the larynx, which can cut off oxygen supply, causes this condition, and while most people don't suffer such severe reactions, many people allergic to nuts, especially peanut butter or shellfish can develop these symptoms. The sudden drop in blood pressure can be deadly.

Additional common symptoms also include itching and difficulty swallowing. Nausea, and on occasion, vomiting results, along with abdominal pain.

Food intolerance is not quite the same as a food allergy and is caused not by the immune system, but by other body systems. Symptoms of food intolerance may be gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea and stomach cramps. Many babies and young children are allergic to milk and soy products that can lead to colic and poor growth. Almost twenty percent of infantile colic, or chronic crying at night, may be due to those babies allergic to milk or soy products found in most powdered baby formulas.

The most common culprits in adults are shellfish, such as shrimp, crab and lobster, and nuts that grow on trees, like walnuts and acorns. Other foods like fish and some meat are also common allergy sources. Nuts, especially peanuts are to be blamed for more severe allergic reactions in many patients.

If you think you may be suffering from any type of food allergy, first try to limit your intake of such foods and see if that helps relieve symptoms. If you're not sure what is causing allergic symptoms, a visit to your doctor will more than likely initiate a series of skin-prick or scratch tests which will introduce particular food allergens in minute quantities into your skin to watch for local reactions.

While having a food allergy may at times put a damper on eating habits, millions of people around the world suffer from one sort of or another and lead perfectly happy, normal lives. Once you know what you're allergic to, just avoiding such foods may relieve symptoms of food allergy, and nothing more is necessary or required.

Allergy Relief - What Can You Do?

Just about everyone around you has suffered from some type of allergy at some time and who wants to be running to the doctor all the time? Wouldn?t you rather deal with it naturally and/or find the underlying cause and de4al with it whenever possible.

Allergy relief does not have to be complex or worrisome because of the harsh chemicals. You also must remember that most modern medicine cures do no more than mask your symptoms.

The reason behind all allergies is the malfunctioning of the immune system so would it not make sense to use natural products to re-start the immune system. That means you would actually fix the problem and not mask it with over the counter or prescription drugs that only dealt with the symptoms providing allergy relief.

Allergy relief certainly makes us feel better on the outside but the trouble is nothing has really changed. That?s why even though you might use the relief it is critical that you dig deeper.

It?s really easy to get allergy relief from popping a pill but did you ever stop to think what the chemicals in those pills do to you. For example anyone with heart disease, heart failure, ore even high blood pressure is not suppose to use them. That?s because the main ingredient can cause the heart to race and blood pressure to go up making this allergy relief deadly to the user. So even if you are healthy as a horse excluding your allergies you could put yourself in a life or death situation.

Now think about this for a moment. You are going to take a medication that will give you allergy relief but it can be hazardous to your health and in between time it will do nothing to actually resolve the problem with the immune system.

There are many natural supplements that can help boost the immune system and support the adrenal system. There are several of the vitamins, especially the B?s, CoQ10, Grape seed, and Magnesium. You get anti-inflammatory qualities, immune boosters, and reduces stress to the body. Quercitin can actually help neutralize histamine which is an excellent allergy relief.

There are many reasons why the immune system suddenly goes crazy and there are some interesting theories as to why allergies are on the rise. Natural medicine believes much of it has to do with our overly stressful lives and our bodies that are no longer in balance. This means that if we were able to bring our body back into balance we wouldn?t? be looking for allergy relief because we wouldn?t have the allergies we have right now.

If you take a minute to think about it ? it makes more sense than any other explanation we?ve had. Not only are our lives stressed because we are so busy but our body?s systems are stressed because of toxins we ingest through our mouth, respiratory, and skin. That places a great deal of stress on organs and glands. And because our food chain lacks so many nutrients that it once had we are not able to refuel our body the same way we use to. And that?s why before running out and buying some allergy relief you might also consider bring your body back into balance.

So you see allergy relief will only address the symptoms. Why not get to the bottom of the problem instead?

Cat Allergy

If we were smart we would avoid things that we are allergic to but who said most of us were smart or sane when it comes to our pets. For most cat lovers there is no way they are going to part with their beloved pet because of a cat allergy.

That means you?ll need to learn to manage your cats and your cat allergy symptoms. Although you might not rid yourself of your cat allergy you should be able to make your symptoms manageable.

In case you have forgotten we?ll give you a little reminder about the allergens and the fact that they are airborne so when you breathe them in you can have a cat allergy reaction. There is a high rate of contamination and recontamination.

1. No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed

Okay no monkey?s here but there will be no more cats sleeping on your bed. This might be the hardest habit to break but it?s a small price to pay to wake up clear headed in the morning and without your cat allergy bothering you.

2. No Trespassing

The bedroom has to become a cat free zone and this will reduce the allergens to almost zero. Don?t give into your cats. They?ll find somewhere else they love to curl up and you?ll find yourself suffering a lot less with your cat allergy.

3. Give Me An H..E..P?A

HEPA air filters do a great job of cleaning the air in your home and because cat dander is so difficult to pick up this is a smart way to be effective and help your cat allergy.

4. HEPA Vacuum

Vacuuming just became that much more important. You need to invest in a HEPA vacuum cleaner and you need to vacuum walls, carpets, furniture, and just about anything else that lives in the house other than Grandma?s fine china. You need to do it at least twice a week to reduce your cat allergy.

5. Steam Clean

Using a vapor steam cleaner to clean your home will kill the proteins in the dander. This has been scientifically proven. What that means is for under a hundred dollars you can rid your home of everything and you?ll find your cat allergy is forgotten.

6. Wash Em Now!

Always wash your hands right after handling your cat and make sure you do not rub your eyes at any time even after you?ve washed your hands. Your cat allergies will be better.

7. Heat It Up!

Wash all your bedding in water that is 140 degrees and do this twice a month to eliminate dust mites and cat allergens.

8. Bath Your Cat

Yes we know that this task could easily be worse than your cat allergy but you simply have to do it at least once a month and more often if you can.

What?s most important to realize when you suffer from a cat allergy is that you do not have to get rid of your cat. Your cat is a family member and getting rid of your cat is like getting rid of one of your children. You can have your cat and your cat allergy too.

Seven Steps Towards an Allergy Free Home

1. Take your shoes off when you enter your home. Pesticides, pollen

and more can get on your shoes and then be transferred to carpets.

2. Idle your car in the driveway or street if you must. Never idle a car in an attached garage! Fumes can seep into the home. Install a carbon monoxide detector in the closest room to the garage for extra safety precautions.

3. Smokers can smoke outside. Smoke travels through a home, so smoking in one particular room is not a healthy alternative. Chemicals from cigarette smoke can remain in an environment for up to 10 years. Smoking in one room of a house is like asking to swim in the un-chlorinated side of the pool. It just doesn't work that way.

4. Use non-toxic cleaning products instead of chemical brands. Toxic ingredients to avoid are chlorine, ammonia, methylene, chloride, phenol, formaldehyde, cresol, and xylene. The fumes from these products can stay on surfaces for days until you absorb them into your skin or breathe them into your lungs. Toxic cleaning products is the #1 reason children end up in emergency rooms.

5. Never mix household cleaning products. The combination of chlorine bleach with an ammonia cleanser. It will give off a toxic gas that is a severe respiratory irritant.

6. Do not let pets in the bedrooms. All pets have dander?and it can be an allergen. We usually spend 6-8 breathing in the bedroom. Keep the bedroom as allergy-free as possible! An air purifier would be a bonus here. Your body needs a chance to rest without having to fight to breathe at the same time!

7. Cover pillows and mattresses with 100% cotton pillow and bedcovers. They are more breathable and product less allergens than plastic and polyester.

We can't choose when we want to breathe. We have to breathe every minute of the day. Shouldn't we be able to breathe clean air indoors?

Allergy Treatment Guide - Know Your Options

People face some type of allergy to all sorts of things, this may include environmental allergens, odors, fumes, food, and cigarette smoke just to name a few. Allergy treatment and testing is required when symptoms become uncomfortable and occur on a daily basis. With food allergies and small children, the process of elimination is the best way to determine which food is causing the allergic reaction. Allergy testing methods such as skin testing and blood testing are helpful, but some people may respond better to one than the other. Blood testing is particularly helpful in detecting food allergies, but if you know you?re allergic to a certain food, wouldn?t you just not eat it?

Environmental allergies are a little trickier amongst the different types of allergies. There are a number of possible triggers like weeds, trees, pollens, grasses, dust, dust mites, molds, pet dander, chemical fumes, and cigarette smoke that are all popular offenders. Skin allergy testing is a popular method that is used to diagnose different types of allergies that are severe enough to warrant this approach. Allergy treatment can then be prescribed based on the level of reaction to certain irritants. Seeking assistance from a specialist is not required for everyone with allergies. You can find quite a number of over-the-counter medications that are effective in treating symptoms, but for cases where medications don?t work one would need to consult a professional. There are a number of times where allergies are present with other conditions such as eczema and asthma, and should be assessed in conjunction to allergy treatment as they all go simultaneously. As a result of treating allergies, related conditions will either resolve themselves or lessen considerably as allergy treatment progresses.

Prescribed allergy treatment usually consists of immunotherapy which is also known as allergy shots, that expose allergy sufferers to little amounts of the offending allergens in gradually increased doses that over time reduces symptoms. Make sure that substance that triggers severe allergic reactions, for example certain foods like (shellfish, eggs and peanuts) and bee stings is avoided completely. One must remember that avoidance is the only allergy treatment in this case, aside from using an Epi-Pen and/or Benadryl in cases wherein an accidental exposure may take place. People who are afflicted with allergies should try different allergy treatments and combinations in order to experience any significant relief.

Over a period of time allergies decreases and may in due course disappear thus requiring a lesser amount of allergy treatment. There are a number of resources online you can look into about allergy treatments like www.allergies.about.com, www.medicinenet.com, or www.drgreene.com where you will find a world of information about allergy treatments right at your fingertips.

Facing The Facts Of Gluten Allergy

Food allergy remains one of the most persistent forms of allergic reaction. No one knows why people have certain allergic responses to different types of food. But it is a fact that once a person is exposed to the food allergen, the symptoms will surely follow.

Gluten allergy is a food allergy that makes the sufferer sensitive to gluten. Coeliac disease is a health condition in the small intestine. What happens to a person with gluten allergy is once the allergen comes in contact with the small intestine, it causes the immune system to attack the lining of the bowel.

This attack on the small intestine?s lining of the gluten allergy sufferer weakens the stomach and can cause serious health problems in the future. The delicate lining is responsible for the absorption of nutrients and vitamins in our body. Once it is weakened, we lose our capacity to effectively turn food into energy,

Gluten allergy starts at a young age, right after the weaning period and the mother is feeding the baby with cereals. There are no specific reasons why a person develops the gluten allergy but when it happens, the only thing the gluten allergy sufferer can do is avoid gluten at all cost.

Symptoms of Gluten Allergy

Gluten is usually found in wheat products. Breads, pasta and other baked goods can be considered dangerous to a person with gluten allergy. Biscuits, pastries, breakfast cereals and instant soups and sauces also have gluten. The symptoms of a gluten allergy differ from children and adults.

Children with gluten allergy may suffer from slow physical growth, weight loss, with poor appetite. Gluten allergic symptoms also include vomiting and diarrhea. Because the small intestine?s lining is damaged, the vitamins and minerals do not go to the body. The kids end up looking thin, pale and have no energy at all.

In adults, gluten allergy symptoms are similar, with loss of weight, diarrhea or constipation complicating the disease. Aside from this, adults often complain about depression, extreme fatigue, lethargy, bone pain and ulcers in the sufferer?s mouth.

Treatment

Treatment for gluten allergies begins like all other food allergy, avoiding contact with the allergen. There are certain food substitutes for gluten allergy sufferers like using sunflower oil instead of the usual cooking oil and drinking wines instead of beer.

There are medications available to these sufferers. But unlike other food allergies that show external symptoms like rashes, gluten allergy destroys from the inside, making diagnosis and detection hard. Oral medication can help ease the pain from the small intestine and vitamin supplements must also be taken along with it.

Gluten allergy prevention

Gluten allergy sufferers are asked to be vigilant in monitoring their diet. Reading the labels for anything with wheat is a good start. Self-discipline is the key to beating gluten allergy. The food selection for coeliac disease sufferers is still varied like fruits, salads and vegetables, rice, corn, nuts, meat and chicken eggs and dairy products, fish and seafood.

What could be the worst-case scenario for gluten allergy sufferers? If left untreated, coeliac disease can result in anemia, bone disease and some form of cancer. The best advise is to steer clear of gluten-laden foods. The more the person does not intake gluten, the better their chances of not having a serious health problem in the future.

How to Arrange Food Allergy Testing

If you have a food allergy it is essential that you identify it as soon as possible so that you can avoid problem foods.

Food allergy testing is the only way to identify a food allergy. Once you are aware of your food allergies, you can ensure that you do not eat the foods which are harmful to your body.

If you are allergic to certain foods your immune system releases large doses of chemicals when they are eaten to protect your body from them. The problem is that these chemicals produce a variety of symptoms that can be severe and sometimes, life threatening.

Food allergies can be identified by carrying out food allergy testing. However, there are only 90 NHS allergy clinics in the UK. This means that if you want food allergy testing on the NHS , you might have to wait a long time. Therefore, you might want to arrange food allergy testing privately. If so, you have two main options:

Food Allergy Skin Prick Test

A food allergy skin prick test uses a small needle to gently prick the skin through fluid containing a known allergen to see how it reacts to it. If you have a food allergy, your skin will go red and itchy and a small white swelling will develop. This will fade within a matter of hours.

The food allergy skin prick test provides a clear "yes or no" result as to whether or not you have a food allergy. It is not painful and the results are generally available very quickly.

Food Allergy Blood Test

The food allergy blood test allows you to analysis your reaction to over 400 different allergens.

It involves a sample of your blood being taken and sent to a laboratory where it is tested for levels of IgE. IgE triggers the release of histamines into the bloodstream when the body is exposed to a food or substance which it is allergic to.

You can find places where you can have food allergy testing by searching on the internet or alternatively by asking your doctor for a recommendation.

10 Simple Steps Help To You Bag Allergy-Causing Dust Mites

10 Simple Steps Help You Defeat Dust Mites

Beds are the most popular stomping grounds and breeding grounds -- for dust mites, those ugly, microscopic creatures that can cause allergies and make asthma worse.

Recently, researchers in coastal Australia -- which has a humid climate where house dust mite levels are high -- found that using special coverings on mattresses and pillows and specially washing other bedding reduced dust mite levels 30% after four weeks, and their levels remained about the same for the rest of the six-month trial.

It's not dust that causes people to wheeze and sneeze; it's the eight-legged arthropods, smaller than the period at the end of this sentence that are natural inhabitants of indoor environments. The droppings of these mites are the most common trigger of continual, nonseasonal allergies and asthma symptoms, especially in humid regions, where dust mites tend to thrive throughout the home.

The most important finding, according to lead researcher Carl Vanlaar, PhD, is that even in an environment where house dust mites thrive, it is possible for people to substantially reduce the mites and the substances they produce that cause allergies, called allergens.

Using simple procedures, such as putting special coverings on mattresses and pillows and rigorously washing the rest of the bedding, can help you score points in the war against these Star Wars alien-like creatures, says Vanlaar, who is an allergen research scientist at the Institute of Respiratory Medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. The study appeared in a recent issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, with funding from the Asthma Foundation of New South Wales.

In the trial, researchers tested 14 beds in seven households. In half the beds -- occupied by children with allergy symptoms -- they washed all bed coverings with Acaril, a mite killer containing 30% benzyl benzoate as the active ingredient. They also vacuumed the bedding and floors, and covered mattresses and pillows with special coverings. The benzyl benzoate wash was repeated every two months during the trial and again four months later.

In the other seven beds -- which were occupied by the allergic children's siblings -- the researchers did nothing special. They found that there was a substantial reduction in the amount of allergen caused by dust mites in the study children's beds compared to the other children's beds.

There have been several other studies looking at ways of controlling mites and their allergens in the home. Some methods, such as the use of benzyl benzoate powders, have been very limited in their effectiveness.

"Studies targeting allergens in beds -- such as our own study -- have had variable levels of success depending on the [method] used, or the studies took place in climates unfavorable for dust mite survival, such as in northern Europe," says Vanlaar. He adds that in this test, they opted for washing the upper bed coverings rather than encasing them because when the upper covering is encased, the bed can become somewhat hot and uncomfortable.

Michael Ruff, MD, spokesman for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, agrees with the Australian findings. "This study proves that even allergy and asthma sufferers living in areas with high humidity can benefit from these steps." Ruff says washing bedding in extremely hot water once a week and encasing pillows and mattresses in allergen-resistant covers are the easiest and most effective ways to reduce allergen levels in the home.

Vanlaar says the next step is to test whether this method of allergen control in bedding is enough to reduce allergy symptoms in individuals with current symptoms of asthma, and to help prevent allergies and subsequent asthma in high-risk infants.

"We are already investigating the second item by conducting a large ... trial -- the Childhood Asthma Prevention Study -- in which we are treating the cots of approximately 300 babies who are in a high-risk group for asthma, based on a family history of asthma," by washing and encasing the bedding like they did in the current study. To start your own grassroots campaign against the little critters, the American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that you follow these 10 steps for defeating dust mites in the home:

Start in the bedroom:

* Since most dust mites live in mattresses, put an airtight plastic or polyurethane cover on every mattress.

* Wash sheets and blankets in very hot water every week.

* Wash bed pillows every week or put a plastic cover on them. (The pillowcase goes over the plastic cover.)

* If possible, bedrooms should have a hardwood, tile, or linoleum floor. These surfaces are easier to keep clean than carpet.

* If you have to have carpet, try not to place the carpet on concrete. The warm space between a rug and concrete is a good place for mites to live.

* For carpeting, spray the rug with a solution of 3% tannic acid every two months to kill the dust mites. Ask your doctor how to use this solution, and whether it is right for your family.

In the rest of the house:

* Vacuum all carpets and upholstery every week. Vacuums with high-efficiency filters pick up more dust mites, but even standard vacuums work well.

* Furniture that has a polyurethane cover over its padding helps. Plastic or wooden furniture that doesn't have much padding can also help keep down the number of dust mites in the home.

* Because dust mites love warm, humid places, running your air conditioner and keeping the humidity low make a difference.

* Don't bother with special air filters -- they won't help children with asthma or allergies.

To Weed Out Allergy Attacks While Gardening

To Weed Out Allergy Attacks While Gardening

 by: News Canada

(NC)-Did you know that gardening is the second most popular physical activity for Canadians?

According to the experts, all that pulling and digging makes your heart, lungs and muscles strong. Stretching and bending increases your flexibility. It's good for the soul. There's no better feeling than watching a seedling burst from a tiny seed.

Gardening can give you constant rewards such as fresh vegetables or beautiful flowers and a well cared for lawn is a great source of pride.

For gardening enthusiasts, the spring does not come soon enough. For those who suffer seasonal allergies, it comes too soon. Pollen from trees, grasses and weeds, as well as mould spores in warmer months cause sneezing, runny nose, itchy watery eyes and nasal congestion. In severe cases, sore throats and coughs can develop.

Here's a quick list of important pollen sources to be aware of when gardening:

  • Trees (oak, elm, birch, hickory, cottonwood, maple, ash)

  • Grasses (meadow fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, orchard, timothy, redtop, Bermuda)

  • Weeds (ragweed, cocklebur, marsh elder, sagebrush, mugwort, pigweed and tumbleweed).

You may be able to limit the numbers of allergy attacks you have by staying indoors and installing air purifiers in your home. But for Canadians who can't wait to get their hands dirty in the outdoors effective non-drowsy antihistamine medications like Claritin can help control your allergy symptoms and make you more comfortable without the drowsiness that accompanies other antihistamine treatments.

The more you know about your allergy the better you can control it. For the most up to date forecast of seasonal allergy triggers in your area watch for the Claritin Pollen Report on the Weather Network. Using the latest meteorological data, the 60-second report provides pollen level estimates for the coming 24 hours - in addition to current tree, grass and ragweed pollen levels. You can catch the report 24 hours a day on the Weather Network at 28 minutes past the hour.

So if you love to watch the flowers bloom but hate allergies keep track of the pollen count and ask your pharmacist to help you dig up the treatment that's right for you.

How to Cure Allergy Naturally?

When the immune system in our body finds or realizes anything as foreign to the body, it immediately releases some antibodies like histamines to fight against the foreign substance. This causes inflammation which is called allergy in our body.

There are many natural remedies for allergies available. Although natural remedies are easily available without prescription, it is better to consult a doctor before to take up any medicine as a remedy for allergies.
