If you are wondering why you need a doctor here?s a great example ? sinusitis is an allergy that many suffer from missing about 7 days a week in sick days because of it. When you suffer from allergies you are 20 times more likely to miss work or school. You will also spend your days feeling too tired to do anything and you are simply not functioning at your maximum ability. Your concentration is reduced and without an allergy treatment you have a greater risk of being involved in some type of accident or injury.

Allergies that are left without an allergy treatment can also lead to serious health problems. Sinusitis, ear & throat infections, tonsillitis, adenoids enlarged, polyps, and the problems go on and on.

Without an allergy treatment you can also suffer from sleep apnea which can be life-threatening if a person stops breathing. Untreated you can also suffer from other respiratory problems that result in chronic conditions like asthma. Allergies can also skin problems, food allergies, and even drug allergies. Some of these allergies can be life threatening anaphylactic shock.

Coping With A Dog Allergy

Recent studies show that 15% to 20% of the population is allergies to either their dog or cat. But for 25% of those people they choose to continue to keep pets and suffer through the allergies. In fact studies show even when told by their doctor to give up their dog only one out of five choose to do so while the rest live with their dog allergy.

When surveyed many of those suffering from a dog allergy felt that their companionship their pet provided far outweighed the allergy itself. For those that choose this route learning to manage their allergy is very important.

The biggest mistake made is to blame the fur when actually the allergy is caused by the protein that is secreted by the oil glands and then shed with their dander which is microscopic particles of skin, hair, and fur. Since animals continuously shed this dander is always present and a person can develop a dog allergy when the immune system mistakes this allergen as the enemy.

These allergens can be transmitted through the air or they can be transmitted through touch. When the allergens land on your nose, eyes, or are inhaled into the lungs the allergy symptoms begin. Contact with your skin can cause hives. For most a dog allergy is an annoyance but for some it can life threatening causing severe asthma attacks that block the air ways. The severity will vary from one person to another.

Just as severity can vary from person to person so can how long it takes for the symptoms to occur. They can develop instantly upon exposure or they can take hours to develop.

Another big misconception is that there is such a thing as a non-allergenic dog breed. For example many believe that dogs with fur that is tightly woven such as poodles have no shedding so therefore there is no allergen dander but this is not true. You can still have a dog allergy

What is true when it comes to a dog allergy there are some dog breeds that seem to both some people less. Size often has a lot to do with because the smaller the dog the less dander that is likely to be released. For example a large breed such as a Shepherd would have a lot more dander than a toy breed like the poodle.

Sensitive people are actually more likely to have a cat allergy than a dog allergy. When a person is allergic to animals they can even suffer when the animal is not present because the allergens or dander still reside in the house. And it does take more than a vacuum to clear a house of the dander.

For pet lovers who discover suddenly they have developed a dog allergy it can be devastating and giving up a beloved pet is simply not an option.

One method of reducing allergens and then perhaps the dog allergy is to groom your pets often. It?s bet if you can do this outside or in a room that has no carpeting, and a hepa air purifier. Wear a dust mask while your grooming. You need to wash your hands after handling

Placing hepa air purifiers throughout your house can reduce the amount of dander. Bathing your pet once a week will reduce allergens by more than 80% and if you suffer from a dog allergy this can be the difference between suffering and not suffering. That said some breeds don?t do well with bathing that often so watch for symptoms of dry skin and reduce bathing accordingly.

A dog allergy doesn?t have to be the end of the road for you and your dog. It may take you a while to determine the best way to manage your allergy but when you do both you and your best friend will be very happy.

Do You Have A Dog Allergy?

Runny nose, watery eyes? Sneezing all the time? Do you have a dog allergy? Maybe your best friend is what?s got your allergies going. After all there really is no dog breed that is truly non allergenic because they all produced dander, urine, and saliva.

Some dogs are less likely to cause allergies because they have less dander. There is a misconception that it is the fur that causes the allergies so the heavier the dog sheds the more likely you are to suffer. This is not the case. It is all about the dander. That is what actually causes the dog allergy.

Urine is generally more of a problem with cats than dogs because dogs go outside. And all dogs salivate. The pet hair becomes a problem when it collects other common allergens such as dust, pollen, dander causing a dog allergy.

The problem goes even deeper than what you are allergic to. You see people with allergies have an immune system that is super sensitive so it reacts to things that are harmless like pet dander. A dog allergy can cause wheezing, fatigue, coughing, headache, itchy watery eyes, sneezing, and in some cases asthma attacks. It can happen as quickly as five minute or be a delayed reaction occurring much later. And some people are allergic to only certain breeds.

There are also skin care products that you can use on your dog to reduce the amount of dander your dog produces. And there are some breeds that just by nature produce less dander so they can be a good choice for anyone with a dog allergy.

There are several things you can do to help reduce your dog allergy. For starters you can choose a natural product to help boost your immune system. You might also consider doing a detox to remove toxins from the body. Over the years our bodies build up large amounts of toxins which affect our immune system and can play a role in it short circuiting.

A dog allergy is just one of the allergies you might be suffering with that are environmental. Keep the dog dander to a minimal in your home. Run a HEPA filter in each room and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Vacuum at least once a day and don?t forget to vacuum in the vents where hair, dander, and dust gather. Also vacuum the furniture. HEPA filters make a huge difference.
Keep the dogs out of the bedroom. If you don?t want to close the door then install a baby gate to keep them out. Consider removing carpets and installing flooring. It reduces all kinds of allergies and is a known asthma reducer in children.

Bathe your dog at least once a week and wash dogging bedding and toys once a week. Spray areas where the dogs spend time with an anti allergen spray which helps deactivate allergens. Keep dust to a minimal.

You can also receive immunotherapy allergy shots if testing showed a pet allergy to begin with although it?s not as effective as they would like to see it. You can also use over the counter medications to reduce symptoms and of course there are some excellent natural products that are worth trying if you have a dog allergy.

A dog allergy can develop out of nowhere. Or it can be something you have lived with for years that got worse over the years. Whatever the reason you now suffer with a dog allergy you can reduce the effects of that allergy using natural products and these tips.

Dealing With A Cat Allergy

You are suspecting that you just might be allergic to your cat but there is no way that Fluffy is going to be moving out of your house. What to do? Dealing with a cat allergy can be accomplished with a little diligence.

Finding out you are allergic to your cat can be heart breaking. There are a variety of symptoms that can occur such as sneezing, itchy watery eyes, runny nose, sinus infection, headache, and a host of other mild to moderate symptoms that if you are determined enough you can likely find some relief from and still keep Fluffy. But there are also situations that are severe and even life threatening which means you will have to find your cat a new home. Lets assume your cat allergy is one you can live with. So what to do?

Let?s first have a look at some of the other symptoms that can be related to a cat allergy. The list is long ? besides the symptoms already mentions other symptoms include eye infections, redness, swelling, itching, post nasal drip, hives, rashes, itchy skin, plugged or poping ears, hoarseness, and coughing. There may also be shortness of breath, wheezing, reoccurring bronchitis which increases during tasks such as grooming or cleaning the litter box.

They may also increase when vacuuming or dusting which stirs up the dander. And often overlooked is that the allergy is actually not with the cat but with the perfumes used in cat products such as the litter. The cat allergy is caused buy allergens commonly the sebum produced by your cat. So it?s not the actual cat hair that causes the allergy but rather a protein that is in the dander and the tiny particles are easily moved around.

So how do you deal with a cat allergy? There are several things you can try. HEPA filters are a great place to start. HEPA filters situated in each room of your home as well as a vacuum with a HEPA filter will certainly help reduce the allergens.

Having your cat neutered or spayed can help your cat allergy because it reduces the sebum level that is produced. Replace carpets with flooring can make a big difference because carpet traps not only cat dander but dust mites, and a host of other allergy causing things.

Bathe your cat regularly and cover your pillows and mattress with tight casings that can help. We spend half of our life sleeping so it makes sense to also keep the cat out of the bedroom. And of course you can also have the allergy shots that are designed to desensitize you.

But wait! There are some natural remedies for dealing with a cat allergy and some are very effective. Seek out the help of a naturopath or do some research online. You can find several products that might be beneficial.

First of all it is a well known fact that allergies including your cat allergy are a result of an immune system that is misfiring, so building your immune system and doing natural things to help bring your body into balance can also be very helpful.

Don?t ignore the simple fixes when you are dealing with a cat allergy. Do it right and Fluffy will spend the rest of her days with you in a life of luxury!

Allergy Air Purifier Relief

Do you sneeze allot? Do your sinuses always seem to be plugged up? You could be one of the many people who suffer from allergies. An allergy air purifier can bring relief from things that can cause allergies, such as pollen and dust. An allergy air purifier is designed to get rid of particles that can be unhealthy and cause difficulty breathing. An air purifier designed to bring allergy relief is safe to put in any room of the house, and can be purchased just about anywhere household items are sold. The internet could be a very reliable source for investigating the different types, sizes and costs of the unit.

Allergies are very common in the summer time, when many different flowers are blooming and lawns are being mowed. There is usually a lot of pollen floating in the air. Summertime is usually very dry and a lot of dust can accumulate. If your job requires you to be outdoors during this time you may want to consider a portable allergy air purifier. This type of unit can be plugged in just about anywhere, including your car, and allow you to get some relief where ever you are. How convenient is that.

Dust can build up any time of the year, but summer seems to be the worst, as it is dryer than the other seasons. Our home is like a magnet for dust build up, as it is a more confined area, and just seems to be a good conductor for dust. You may dust one day only to find that even before the day ends, it needs it again. An allergy air purifier can help eliminate dust build up and clean the air at the same time. The air we breathe is very contaminated. If we could look at it through a microscope, we would be appalled and probably want to wear a face mask where ever we go. An allergy air purifier traps unwanted particles in the air and eliminates them; leaving behind fresh, clean air to breathe. They are easy to install and require very little maintenance.

Depending on the size of your home, where you work, or if you spend a lot of time outdoors, there is an allergy air purifier designed just for your needs. With a little research and determination, you could be breathing easier tonight.

Getting Allergy Relief Inside

If it is allergy season, you know it. You don't need someone on the news telling you the levels of pollen in the air. You don't need to be told that there is a cat lurking in the home. You don't need this because you feel it. If allergies are what cause you so many untold problems each day, you should always be on the look out for products that can help you to find some relief. The good news is that besides the allergy medications you need to take, there are other ways that you can improve your condition.

For one, consider an air purifying system in your home. Since most of the allergens that effect those that live in your home are lurking in the air, adding a tool to help clean out the air will help you to find some benefits. If you have ever been in a home that uses an ionic air cleaner, for example, you may have felt a lesser allergy attack there. That's because these units help to trap the allergens inside filters, or will react with them right in the air and neutralize them. That means that you don't have to breathe them in.

Air cleaning products are widely available. If you decide to purchase one, make sure to find one that provides for allergen removal, specifically the type of allergy that you have. Finding a product that removes pollen, dust, dander, bacteria and other elements that are lurking in the air will be important to your overall well being. You can even purchase smaller units for your car or to wear around your neck to help reduce the allergens that you come in contact with while being out and about.

Using an air purifier, you can find many benefits in overall health and well being. You can lessen the effect that your allergy has on you.

Kerry Rodden is an expert on air purifiers, and has written many articles on air purifiers, fans, vacuum cleaners, air fresheners and a lot more.

Make Allergy Triggers Disappear Part -1

One effective way of providing relief for a child or anyone with allergies or asthma is to control the triggers that could cause an allergic episode. When many people speak of allergies it's done in the context of being allergic to a certain thing like the lawn or a certain food. While it's true that someone can be allergic to a specific food or environmental aspect, it's important to remember that most people with allergies have a compromised respiratory system. Many people have allergies and asthma, that are aggravated by things generally found in the environment. By controlling the potential allergy and asthma triggers at home, you're making a better living environment for anyone with a respiratory disorder.

One of the most common problems that can cause an asthma or allergy attack is dust. The first place to check for this problem is in your furnace. Take the time to replace the small particulate filters in your furnace and air-conditioning unit at least once a month. Don't buy the under a dollar filters, as they will only trap the largest of dirt and dust particles. Spend the extra money and get a high quality filter for your furnace. These can be easily identified by sight as they look more like fabric than the cheap filters.

Consider getting a whole house humidifier. A humidifier senses the amount of water in the air and adds moisture as necessary. Air that is too dry and irritate airways and bronchial passages making them more susceptible and likely to cause an allergic event. Or look of humidity, somewhere between 30 to 50% is ideal. If you don't have a forced their furnace or can't afford the expense of a whole house humidifier, consider several portable room type humidifiers for your home. By placing them at strategic locations you can make the living areas an allergy or asthma sufferer uses much more comfortable for them. You will probably find that everyone will benefit from taking the extra time to control the humidity in your home.

In areas of high humidity, you may actually need a dehumidifier. While not having enough moisture in the air is a problem, having too much moisture results in a sticky or muggy feeling that can also cause problems. The most common problem is the development of mold. Mold is found in damp areas like the bathrooms but also grows on walls and under kitchen sink cabinets.

Mold is a very common household problem. Unfortunately, the spores also can cause serious breathing difficulties for anyone with respiratory conditions like allergies and asthma. To control mold in your house, it's necessary to remove some of the moisture in the air. This is where a dehumidifier can really come in handy.

To remove mold that's already growing, a simple chlorine bleach solution is great on colorfast materials. Simply use a spray bottle and dilute common laundry chlorine bleach to a 1 to 5% solution and you're ready to go. Ceramic tile grout seems to be an almost perfect place for more could grow. You can tell there's mold, if you're grout lines are starting to turn black. That black is normally mold. Simply use a spray bottle with the chlorine bleach solution and sprayed directly on the ceramic tile and grout line's. You may need to use a stiff bristle brush to remove the mold. If you have colored grout, be sure to check in a small inconspicuous area to make certain the bleach solution won't discolor you're grout. The same chlorine bleach solution can be used under the kitchen cabinets, on walls and almost anywhere mold grows.

By removing mold, wherever it grows in controlling the quality of the air in your home, you are well on your way to helping your family control causes of allergy and asthma attack events. Visit the site below and pick up a free report on eliminating allergy and asthma attack triggers in your home.

Abigail Franks has done extensive research into Asthma,Allergies, and their triggers. Visit the Asthma site for more information on Asthma Triggers and Allergies and Asthma

A Look At Hypoallergenic Mattress Bedding:A Solution For People Suffering From Allergy

If you get up in the morning or after a refreshing brief afternoon siesta and have symptoms like sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, nasal stuffiness, runny nose or stuffy ears chances are you are suffering from dust mite allergy.

Dust mites belong to the same family as spiders and are often found in homes. However they are so small ,they cannot be seen by the naked eye. The bedroom is a perfect abode for these house dust mites and they make homes in your pillows, mattresses, blankets & bed springs. One study conducted by researchers found that the average bed has two million of these creatures living on it!

During the night we shed our dead skin cells and they often get attached to the mattresses we sleep on. Dust mites consume these dead skin cells and shed their waste droppings on the bed itself. Their waste containing allergens and debris and is the cause of most allergies. At least 10% of humans are allergic to dust mite droppings. During its short 80 day lifespan, the average dust mite produces around 1000 allergenic waste particles!

To cure this particular problem many bedding manufacturers have developed hypoallergenic bedding for standard mattresses. Due to their small size dust mites easily slip through the pores between the thread of normal bedding fabrics. Hypoallergenic mattress bedding is woven tightly so that the pores are too small for dust mites to penetrate and infest your bedding.

Even if you do not suffer from allergies it's a good idea to buy hypoallergenic bedding. It keeps your bedding clean and hygienic. Who wants to sleep on dust mites droppings anyway!

Alternative Therapies for Allergies: Allergy Allersodes

?Can I get another bottle of this? I?m out, it works great, and allergy season is here.? My clients ask, as they hold up the tell-tale little brown bottle with its yellow label.

I thought at first that I was manifesting a placebo affect because these products worked so well on my own allergies, but over the years clients have come in every other year or so just to pick up a bottle of Tree Mix I or II when they run out. I never see them any other time. And I figure if they work on animals that the animals will rule-out most of the placebo effect. A bottle lasts anywhere from one month to two years depending on what you are trying to manage, how much you need and how short the exposure is.

My favorite allergy remedies come from Professional Complementary Health Formulas. The remedies are called allersodes. Allersodes are homeopathic drops that minutely stimulate the immune system to recognize, glom onto, and expel the allergy-causing organism from the body, usually through the kidneys or bowels. These particular allersodes contain homeopathics to support the adrenal gland and liver as well. I think that is one reason why they work so well.

It has always been difficult for me to comprehend that the more you dilute a homeopathic substance, the stronger it gets and the faster it works. But, you may need only a few treatments (like when using the insect bite allersode.)

I use low-dose homeopathic remedies in my practice because I can?t monitor my clients on a daily basis and most of my clients have only recently been introduced to homeopathics and natural medicine. It?s extremely rare that anyone has side-effects with using them. They are safer and you can use them for several months at a time if necessary. Each bottle costs about $15, but often during an exam I will combine several remedies and make a custom formula for $20 (which saves a person quite a bit of money if they are shifting and changing and don?t need a whole bottle of several different remedies.) Local practitioners may vary in price and/or require an exam before dispensing the products. It's good to know your clients so you can be of better service for their individual needs. And it's good to build a rapport with people you think you would like to have on your healing team.

The dosage is normally 17 drops three times daily for acute situations and 15 drops daily for chronic allergies. Here are a few of the remedies my clients and I have utilized over the years for various allergies causing skin problems, rhinitis, itchy eyes, irritability, asthma, depression, feelings of spaciness, and a slough of other symptoms:

Animal Mix?for allergies to Camel, Cat, Chicken, Cow, Dog, Duck, Fish, Goat, Guinea Pig, Horse, Llama, Mouse, Pheasant, Pig, Quail, Rabbit, Rat, Sheep and Turkey.

Biting Insect Mix?for allergies to Bedbugs, Bees (5 Types), Chiggers, Cockroach, Deerfly, Flea, House Fly, Lice (Head And Body), Mosquito, Moth, Spider (5 Types), Ticks, and Wasps. Excellent product for your first aid kit because it doesn?t need to be refrigerated like epinephrine. I love this one. It works especially well.

Flower Mix?for allergies to Aster, Camellia, Carnation, Chrysanthemum, Daffodil, Daisy, Daphne, Gardenia, Gentian, Gladiola, Honeysuckle, Iris, Lilac, Lily, Larkspur, Lupine, Marigold, Oleander, Pansy, Petunia, Peony, Poppy, Rose, Snapdragon, and Tulips.

Household Dust & Molds?for allergies to Black Mold, Grain Dust, House Mold, House Dust, Lint, Mattress Dust, Mildew Dust, Paper Dust, Rug Dust, Upholstery Dust, Yeast (Baker?s/Brewer?s) and Dust Mites. This one also works quite well, but you still have to keep your house clean!

Grain & Seed Mix?for allergies to Barley, Corn, Cotton Seed, Flax Seed, Gliadin (whatever that is), Gluten, Millet, Milo, Oat, Poppy Seed, Rice (Brown/White), Rye, Safflower, Sesame, Sorghum, Soybean, Sunflower and Wheat.

Grass & Weed Mix?for allergies to Alfalfa, Amaranth, Bamboo, Chenopodium, Cocklebur, Dandelion, Fox Tail, Grease Wood, June Grass, Johnson Grass, Kapok, Lambs Quarters, Marsh Elder, Mugwort, Pampas Grass, Pigweed, Ragweed, Sage, Scale (All Scale/ Wingscale/ Lenscale), Scotch Broom, Sheep Sorrel, Yellow Dock, Red Top, Meadow Fescue, Sweet Vernal, Kentucky Blue, Orchard, Perineal Rye, Timothy, Red Clover, White Clover, Goldenrod, Velvet Grass, and Thistle. This one is really popular and a favorite for lots of clients (including myself).

Tree Mix I?for allergies to Alder, Ash, Birches, Cedars, Cottonwoods, Cypresses, Elms, Firs, Hemlock, Hickories, Junipers, Maples, Mulberries, Western Oaks, Eastern Oaks, Pines, Redwood, and Spruces. I use this one in the fall. For me, allergies exacerbate urinary incontinence. I?ve often wondered how many incontinent people have an underlying cause of allergy.

Tree Mix II?for allergies to Acacia, Aspen, Bay, Elder, Eucalyptus, Fig, Flowering Apple, Flowering Cherry, Lilac, Magnolia, Mesquite, Oleander, Olive, Pepper, Privet, Sycamore, Tulip, and Willow. Lots of people all over the United States appear to be allergic to Russian Olive, Willow and Walnut pollens and leaf molds, so this one works well.

Nightshade Mix?for allergies to Chilies, Eggplant, Ground Cherries, Mustard Greens, Peppers (Red/Green), Tobacco, Tomato, Potatoes (Red/White) and Mushroom.

These are just a few of my favorite combination remedies. There are lots more combinations out there, many of which are customized for local regions and areas. I know there are also different companies which make remedies such as this. I just know this particular company has high standards and I like that in a product line. Allergy allersodes are a good, safe alternative for allergy season. They are cheap, effective and worth a try.

A Natural Approach to Allergy Therapy

Allergies are essentially a situation in which your immune system responds too strongly to a stimulus. While this sounds like a good situation, it is a toxic and potentially deadly situation for your body. Your immune system is powerful enough to destroy any invader if co-ordinated properly. Co-ordinated improperly, your immune system will destroy your own vital components; it will cause you sinusitis, skin conditions, asthmatic reactions, stomach and intestinal diseases, and more.

Medicine has no cure for allergies, only drugs for their symptoms. These drugs are, ironically, designed to weaken your immune response. The 'anti-histamines' often prescribed to combat asthma daily can be deadly. They are associated with heart problems, and in a Canadian Study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute anti-histamines can increase the rate of growth of cancerous tumours in lab rodents.

What you need to learn are the approaches to allergy therapy that will make good health sense, working in a productive manner to keep you healthy for the long term.

The primary control system of your allergic response is your nervous system. Your nervous system is likely to be irritated physically on several levels if you do have allergies, and it is important to reduce these sources. The systems that you can use to reduce these factors vary, and it is important to understand the method you choose thoroughly. Secondary to controlling your immune system, you must discover the types of foods that will empower your body to function properly through a healthy diet.

It is equally important that emotional stress in your life be reduced. Many people are walking emotional wrecks and are ignoring the damage this is doing to their health. The secrets to overcoming emotional problems are simple and straightforward honesty and courage in dealing with each situation that provides you with emotional instability or stress. Focusing on the health of the mind and body are essential steps for reducing the emotional barriers that your personal history has burdened you with. These steps can be empowering, and they are healing.

With allergies, as with any chronic condition, proper styles of living will reduce your symptoms and may even eliminate them. The important aspect to this process of self-learning and self-healing is to take on new ideas and new concepts while reducing the blurring effects of old concepts slowly. Examine issues over and over again with a new perspective and you will slowly learn the underlying steps to a stronger level of health, both mentally and physically.
